The National Arts Club "Portraits" show opened last night, and thus I got to see many of my friends in their frou-frou clothes. The place was packed, and access to the cheese cubes was a hard-fought privilege granted only to those willing to push and shove their way to the end of the gallery. Alack, as Jordan notes, there was no poetry reading, but given the size and noise of the crowd, I think it would have been near impossible to hold one. When the head of the Club tried to shush the crowd in order to make some acknowledgements, it was pretty much a lost cause. Anyway, I saw approximately one zillion people there, and apparently Jimmy Fallon showed up, because New York is insane.

The show remains up until the 29th, so if you would like to see it, stop on in at 15 Gramercy Park South.

Four poetry readings in three days, and the opening of the Portraits show tonight. Whew! Still going through the tiny, as well as my haul of journals from the Magathon.

I read some drunken sailor poems at the Ear Inn and at Pete's last night. People seem to like them. If you have any new ideas for things to do with a drunken sailor, please tell me in the comments. So far, we've

gone to the library
visited a construction site
played frisbee
taken a nap
played chess
gone shopping
visited the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life
gone to a junior high dance
measured things
seen a movie
hung out on the roof
