Hey you! You should go to Cornelia Street Cafe at 6 pm tonight to hear Shanna Compton and Shafer Hall read from their new book, "Big Confetti!" It's a party as well as a book, as it comes with confetti and a cocktail recipe. After the reading, repair to the Four Faced Liar with the crowd for more poetical fun and libations.

After a weekend of recovery, be sure to show up to the Poetry Project on Monday to hear Shanna read again! Check here for details on both readings.

Plus, Shafer and Erica both have poems up here. Erica, is that your senior photo?

On Monday, everybody was talking about Friendster. And this morning I got an email from someone wishing to be my Friendster. I'm cool with that, but . . . people are still on Friendster? Really? I totally hadn't even logged on to it in eight months. I forgot my password and everything.

I don't know what to think.

Rejections, rejections. The rejections are improving, however. My first rejection made it clear that the editors believed my poetry was the most horrifying disservice ever done to literature. Now, the rejections are still rejections, but they invite me to perhaps try back with them in the future. I'll take a comment that stuff just isn't right at this particular time over gibbering cries of "Flee! Flee the awful poem!" any day.

Sweet fancy Moses! They have found the platonic form of an NPR Poet Voice. But will I be inspired, or just want to sign up for more phone service? I'm so conflicted...link via Poetry Hut.

Wrote three poems today. Hate them all, except for this one, and I'm not even sure it's a poem.

"Jake, what
do you mean,
it's free?
The Gideon
Bible is still
in the drawer
and I know
we drank
all the gin
last night."

Went and saw Shafer play in the Bowery Poetry Club's poetry game show last night. He had to play against the audience, 'cause no one showed up to challenge him. I rock at naming poems from first lines (embarrassing trivia: yes, I was captain of my high school's Quiz Bowl team; I got a sports letter for that. Ha! Thank you Virginia High School League for being crazy enough to consider trivia a sport). I also met Erica Kaufman, who was snazzy, and also late for the Poetry Project, so off she went.

Still working on chapbooks. Ironing out the typos, etc. There should be some soon. I gave Shafer my rough mock-ups. He can write nasty comments on them. Or, alternatively, use them as rolling papers. I'm going to bring copies down to Mark this weekend. He can also write nasty comments, but not do the rolling papers thing, 'cause I turn into Shrill Harpy Girlfriend whenever he smokes.

I once met a handsome Dane who rolled his own cigarettes. That's the sort of thing handsome Danes do. Now I'm rambling. Alack.

Poem title that came to me last night in the sleepless haze of the thunderstorm:

"The Dream of the Electric Nosefish"

Oh, and I'm almost done with the letter "I" poem for Jim Behrle's "R is for Ron Silliman" project. It contains references to an animal, a painting, and a myth. Hee.

It was a weekend in which the yummy occurred, multiple times. It also gave rise (heh) to a poem encompassing the line "his dick eats paper hats." That started out as an inside joke, but hopefully, through poetry shall be extended in its high hilarity to the whole universe.

Working on chapbooks, ironing out lingering design flaws and misspellings, etc. Then I shall probably press a few into the hands of nearby persons who I will encourage to call me up in the dead of night and whisper things like "this poem sucks" or "line 3 on page six is missing a very necessary 'j'".

Fairly soon, however, there should be Paypal buttons on the side bar, allowing you and yours to purchase itsy wee chapbooks with covers that are probably more impressive than the poems inside (suitable for framing!) Huzzah.
